Company Challenge
Uppdraget AB is one of the leading courier and transport companies in Gothenburg, supplying courier vans, trucks and short-term driver recruitment for a wide ranging number of industries including Volvo, building companies, printers, advertising agencies, photographers, law firms, and pharmaceutical businesses.

Uppdraget’s system for tracking and controlling its vehicle fleet was out-dated. Vehicle positions and delivery progress were not visible. The system they were using was expensive to run, and Uppdraget had a problem getting replacement units. Terminals took several hours to be installed and once in place, could not be moved. There was little flexibility and repairs were costly and time-consuming.

The company needed to find a system that would enable it to know where its vehicles were at any given time, offer paperless processes and enable customers a transparent view of the movement of their goods. They needed to be able to select which information they wanted to see and collect – the old system just didn’t have this kind of flexibility. They also needed a modern system of terminals that were easy to move between vehicles, and easy to replace in the event of a malfunction. It was a case of moving into the 21st century – and quick.

Why Consafe Logistics?
The choice was easy. Consafe Logistics had already installed a reference system to one of Uppdraget’s colleagues in the business. The system contained the exact requirements Uppdraget needed. It was also easily adaptable to the company’s existing transport system.

The solution: Control Transport
Control Transport offers traceability, efficient and correct recording of deliveries, and environmental certification. The system automates processes removes paperwork, drastically reducing administration. It can be directly integrated with almost all transport and back-office systems creating additional benefits and savings.

The benefit for Uppdraget was that Control Transport could be installed straightaway. No waiting, no expensive integration. At first, 5 units were successfully piloted replacing broken units from the older system. Now the system is being rolled out across the fleet.

Control Transport gives Uppdraget complete control of its fleet, as the company is in constant contact with the vehicles equipped with Control Transport units. Thanks to GPS, operators see where vehicles are at any time, and drivers can find the best routes for delivery. Customers sign on handheld mobile units, using on-screen proof of delivery for more efficient processing systems, eliminating human error. Information is quickly and easily collected and transmitted, and all hand-held terminals can be used with any vehicle, giving increased flexibility of equipment use and movement.

Results:
The Control Transport system has quickly reduced labour and communication costs for Uppdraget, giving the company full control of its vehicle fleet with a more cost-effective spread of its resources. Units are easily transferred into new vehicles allowing more flexibility and savings in time and efficiency. Monthly costs have fallen, and all customers can see first-hand evidence of an improved delivery service, with some able to make use of a login system to check and track their larger orders.
